Actress Ellie Kemper has now issued a full online apology after it was revealed that she won an elite beauty paegent in her hometown of St. Louis when she was 19 which many believed was racist.

Ellie Kemper has issued an apology after photos surfaced showing the actress being crowned the queen of a ball with ties to white supremacy when she was a teen.
The “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star, now 41, said she didn’t know the history of St. Louis’ Veiled Prophet Ball when she decided to participate, but isn’t making excuses for her past involvement.
“Hi guys – when I was 19 years old, I decided to participate in a debutante ball in my hometown. The century-old organization that hosted the debutante ball had an unquestionably racist, sexist, and elitist past,” she began her lengthy Instagram post.
Kemper explained that she was “not aware of the history” at the time but that “ignorance is no excuse.”

I grew up in St. Louis watching that parade and ball every year to see all the pretty girls and beautiful dresses. It was like a fairy tale. I never saw it as racist. I looked at the Veiled Prophet as something out of the Arabian Knights stories. Very strange that it was inclusive of all races since the 70s, but since she participated in the 90s, she must be a racist. When will this end? It has gotten to be an obsession and it is tearing the country apart. We fought for desegregation in the 50s and 60s, And now groups are demanding that we have segregation on college campuses, housing, entertainment, BEAUTY PAGEANTS, and on and on. Why the demand to go backwards? Why is it still okay for the Miss Black America contest? Why is it okay to have Black Entertainment Television? Replace any of these with the word White, and they would burn the place down. We have to stop giving oxygen to those whose only goal in life is to destroy people’s lives, businesses and families.
Yeah, quite frankly I could care less what she did, is currently doing and what she may do.
