George Clooney Defends Meryl Streep Over Trump Comments

George Clooney snapped back at Donald Trump Monday after he called Meryl Streep “overrated” following her Golden Globes speech where she attacked the president-elect.

The 55-year-old actor, who was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton, joked with People magazine about how “overrated” Streep was. He then said Trump had better things to do like “running the country” rather than reacting to actors’ speeches via Twitter during a reception by his foundation for his upcoming Netflix documentary called “White Helmets.”

“I’ve always said that about Meryl,” Clooney responded. “She’s maybe the most overrated actress of all-time. She and I worked together on Fantastic Mr. Fox as husband and wife and I will tell you even as a fox, a female fox, she’s overrated.”

“Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?” he asked Trump.

“We have to hope that he can do a decent job, because when the president of the United States fails, really terrible things happen,” Clooney said at the event, according to another report.
