Jimmy Buffett is Doing Something Awesome for Retirees

Jimmy Buffett is launching a string of “Margaritaville” retirement communities, inspired by his music and related chain of themed restaurants. Rolling Stone reports the first branch will open Daytona Beach, Florida, for Parrotheads aged “55 and better.”

“Inspired by the legendary music and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett, your new home in paradise features exciting recreation, unmatched dining and FINtastic nightlife,” the project, named Latitude Margaritaville, says.

According to Rolling Stone, the $1 billion collaboration between Margaritaville Holdings and Minto Communities aims to create nearly 7,000 homes in Daytona Beach by summer 2018. More than 10,000 fans have already registered for the community, but more sites are reportedly in the works in other locations.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports each “Margaritaville” retirement project aims to attract the “active adult community” with walkable neighborhoods, fitness center, indoor pool, spa, live entertainment, a private beach club and indoor and outdoor dining with signature Margaritaville food and beverage concepts. Homes will start at $200,000 for 200,000 square feet of retail space.
