Anthony Mackie, the actor best known for portraying the superhero ‘Falcon’ in a series of Marvel Movies slammed the studio for its supposed ‘lack of diversity’ on set.

As The Daily Wire reports:

Actor Anthony Mackie, who plays the superhero Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), scolded the franchise for essentially segregating the movie “Black Panther” to be the only movie with a primarily black crew.

Speaking with actor Daveed Diggs on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” issue, the “Captain America: Winter Soldier” star expressed frustration with the lack of diversity behind the camera in the MCU for movies that are not “Black Panther.”

“What are the ways that you find yourself interacting with the moment?” Diggs asked Mackie. “I find a lot of my interactions are just trying to make things better in the gigs I have in front of me — how can I affect different kinds of representation? What is the thing you feel compelled to do? What is your participation in this moment?”

Mackie, who will be starring in the Disney Plus series “Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” said that Marvel’s lack of diversity beyond “Black Panther” bothered him, noting it was weird to see only white people on the other sets.

Mackie then went on to say that his goal going forward would be to see the best person for the job hired, regardless of their racial makeup

So, if a white person has better qualifications for a job, too bad. Minority MUST BE HIRED! Think I’ve run into that one before.

I quit counting the number of times I heard from a prospective employer, “…If you were a black female, you’d have the job right now…”

Well white people did invent cameras and sound equipment, along with novels and interesting stories, screenplays, acting, etc. so why not make most of the movies…

He has a point. We need to hit some black people over the head and MAKE them work on movie studio sets. All in the name of Diversity.
Just like we need to hit women over the had and make them go into STEM. We’ll tech them to slack off!
Or we could just let people do what they want to do. I think we should keep that arrangement.

People should be hired because of their ability and if they fit the part they are trying out to play. Race should not be a factor.

You know I remember when blacks complained they didn’t see themselves on TV/Movies and ads. Nothing ever seems to satisfy people. If the US population is 12.5% of the population, then how come we see far greater percentage of them in our TV/Movies and ads. Therefore, I then have to ask what othr diverse groups are being neglected — we should be seeing more Hispanics, Asians, Native/American Indians, handicapped, and I could go on. Go out and randomly ask people what per cent of the population is black. You’ll most likely hear 30 to 40%. It’s not true. So, to this actor, you can’t create more of something that doesn’t exist. Find out how many of what the availability of these jobs, there are even qualified blacks to fill these jobs. If it’s a low percentage, then you won’t being seeing a lot doing them. For example, I’m sure there’s plenty of qualified people who can be football or basketball players, ask the question then, why are 80% of the players black. I don’t see Hispanics, Asians, etc., etc. playing. So, these diverse groups should have a beef there is no representation for them to see. Let’s just say 12.5% of the population can’t be representing 50% or more of the population.

isn’t tyler perry’s studio all black? isn’t that a quid pro quo? perhaps perry can start training for all of these behind the camera positions that blacks are somehow aced out of. . .can’t hire what does not exist. . .and multimillion productions on tight schedules can’t afford to be slowed down by affirmative action ‘training’. . .

There is so many black shows on and commercials that I don’t watch TV anymore. Hey, why are there so many black football, baseball and basketball players and very few whites, we need diversity in those games. What’s fare is fare for the whites. All created equal.

Jackie’s comments regarding the “lack of Black people behind the camera”, overlooks the lack of other colors, than black, in front of the camera. Should they cast only 13% of Wakandans as black for diversity’s sake ? That would look ridiculous, and if they put 13% of the crew behind the camera as blacks, without a qualification and talent consideration, the movie could “look bad”.

At 14% of the population (which I think is dramatically UNDER REPORTED),
blacks are already 5O% of Hollywood crap shows and movies, local newscasts, etc.
