Pitch Perfect Star Rebel Wilson Was Kidnapped in Africa

Actress Rebel Wilson recalled the terrifying time she was kidnapped at gunpoint while vacationing in Africa on an episode of Sky One’s “Straight Talking.”

When former Royal Marines Commando and show host Ant Middleton asked Wilson to describe the most terrifying situation she’d ever been in, the actress replied with a shocking answer, “There was one time in Africa where I got kidnapped.”

The 40-year-old actress was on vacation in rural Mozambique in 2014 when the “petrifying” ordeal took place. She and a group of women were in transit during the kidnapping.

We were on this cattle truck and these men came on another truck with a lot of guns. [They pulled up beside us] with the big guns and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’ve got to get off your truck’.”

Wilson and the women were then transported to another location by the men. “They took us to this house in the middle of nowhere.”

She discovered that she could keep a level head in a bad situation.  “I feel like I was very good in the crisis, Yeah, I was like a team leader,” she told Middleton. “They sat us down. I said, ‘everybody link arms’. I’m petrified in the night they might want to take one of the girls or something. Luckily, we weren’t harmed.”

Oddly enough, they were released the next day without being ransomed or put through further hardship.  “The next day, they came and said, ‘oh, your truck is ready now you can go – go, go’, you know. So we just didn’t ask any questions, we got back on that truck and just got back out of there and then crossed the South African border a few hours later.”

Wilson believes the motive for the kidnapping had little to do with the passengers. “I think maybe those guys used us to smuggle illegal things in the bottom of the truck.”

Host Middleton, who was clearly shocked by the story, replied: “You need to do a hardcore action movie.”
