Regrettably, Thalia Chaverria, a 20-year-old participant in collegiate soccer at New Mexico State University, passed away under tragic circumstances shortly after commemorating her birthday. The third-year student-athlete was discovered unresponsive at her residence in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Monday morning. Medical personnel pronounced her deceased upon arrival. Thalia, who served as a defender for the women’s soccer team known as the Aggies, was on the verge of commencing her junior academic year at the university.

The local authorities, namely the Las Cruces Police Department, are currently investigating her passing, but there is no evidence thus far suggesting any foul play or unlawful activity. Thalia played an instrumental role in her team’s accomplishments, including their inaugural conference title during her second year and substantial on-field contributions in the previous season.

To commemorate Thalia’s memory, her loved ones and friends have launched a GoFundMe initiative with the aim of gathering financial support for the transportation of her remains from New Mexico to her hometown of Bakersfield, California. Those close to her recall Thalia as a cherished sibling, daughter, and devoted pet parent, with her curly hair and infectious smile forever etched in their minds.
