Democrats and the Migrant Crisis

  • Liberal TV personality, Bill Maher, has taken issue with the Democratic leaders of progressive cities. He criticizes their contradictory responses towards the surge of asylum seekers in their regions.
  • He expressed frustration at these sanctuary cities that proudly welcomed migrants, only to express concern and dismay when border states began to direct large numbers of migrants to their cities, saying:

“Yeah, you liked them when it wasn’t your problem because you’re not a border state “And then when they show up in Chicago, in New York, you’re like, ‘What the f–k? What are we going to do with these people?’”

  • Maher argued that such a response was hypocritical and showed a lack of genuine concern for the plight of migrants.

Homelessness Issues in Democratic Cities

  • Maher also targeted these cities’ approaches towards homelessness, denouncing them as a deviation from true liberal principles.
  • He pointed out the inhumane conditions faced by newly arrived migrants and local homeless individuals in New York, where they were found sleeping on cardboard in the streets.
  • He suggested that there must be a better, more compassionate solution to these issues, such as providing affordable housing options like barracks.

Maher’s Critique on Biden’s Performance

  • Maher expressed disappointment at President Biden’s performance, particularly his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal and the border situation, saying:

“So when Biden got in, I was like, ‘Really? I thought you were that kind of guy.’ But you didn’t know how to pull out of Afghanistan. You can’t seem to, like, get a thing going on the border that’s compassionate but not stupid. Again, the competency worries me more than ideology. Like it makes me think no matter what politics you people are, you’re the same person who can’t get anything done.”

  • Despite his critiques, Maher confirmed he would still support Biden in a 2024 election against Donald Trump, but lamented the lack of competency exhibited by the current administration.
