Renowned actor Robert De Niro is currently grappling with immense grief after the devastating loss of his 19-year-old grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, who tragically passed away on Sunday afternoon.
Inherited from his mother and grandfather, Leandro carried on the family tradition by pursuing a career in acting. Notably, he showcased his talent in the 2018 film “A Star Is Born,” alongside his mother, Drena. In the movie, Leandro portrayed the role of George “Noodles” Stone’s son, a dear companion to Bradley Cooper’s character, Jackson Maine. The character of George “Noodles” Stone was portrayed by the talented Dave Chappelle.
As of now, the cause of Leandro’s death remains undisclosed. However, concerns have arisen due to the discovery of a suspicious “white powdery substance on a plate near his body” at the scene.
In a statement provided to Page Six through his representative on Monday, the actor expressed profound sorrow over the heartbreaking loss of his cherished grandson, Leo. The actor further conveyed gratitude for the condolences received from all, while kindly requesting privacy during this period of mourning for the loss of Leo, saying:
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,”
“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
On Sunday, Drena De Niro, Robert’s daughter, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, announcing the untimely death of her “beautiful sweet angel.” She expressed the indescribable love she had for her child, emphasizing their role as the source of joy, love, and authenticity in her life, saying:
“I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly,”
“You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life.”
Struggling to fathom a life without her teenager, Drena vowed to continue onward, carrying the love and warmth that her child had filled her with as a mother. She deeply regretted that love alone couldn’t have saved her beloved child and apologized for not being able to protect them. With a heavy heart, she bid her baby farewell, wishing them eternal peace and serenity in paradise:
“I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.
“You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you,” she continued. “I’m so sorry my baby. … Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.”
