Ted Cruz was many things before becoming a U.S. senator and presidential hopeful. He was solicitor general of Texas, dual Canadian-U.S. citizen and a campaign staffer for George W. Bush in 2000. But spending time as an Imperial officer in a galaxy far, far away? Probably not.
That’s not really Cruz in an early scene of the Star Wars classic “Return of the Jedi.” The Texas Republican would have been 12 when the film debuted. But, as the Hollywood Reporter pointed out, one of the officers who appears about 90 seconds into the 1983 film bears a striking resemblance to Cruz.
The two men share several distinct facial features. And, hey, who couldn’t see Cruz in those drab uniforms following Darth Vader’s commands? Although it is doubtful he would try to filibuster the dark lord of the Force.
With the release of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” this week and the minor political dust-up surrounding it, the older movies are gaining a new look.
